Alemany promises Barcelona not to touch their squad at Aston Villa

Mateu Alemany was the man behind Barcelona’s recent successes in the transfer market. The former director of Football at FC Barcelona pioneered the Catalan club’s rebuild with masterstrokes on both the arrival and departure fronts and was one of the most central figures in Catalonia for over two years.

Earlier this month, Alemany confirmed that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season to embark on a new professional journey. He committed to completing the upcoming summer transfer window for the Blauganas but has already chosen Aston Villa as his next destination.

The former director of football, however, no longer has the final say on the players Barcelona will sign in June and is merely an advisor whom the club can call upon. Thus, it is not surprising that he has begun the preparations for Aston Villa’s summer transfer window.

According to reports from SPORT, Joan Laporta hoped to speak with Alemany over a possible transfer for either Ferran Torres or Ansu Fati to Aston Villa. However, the former director has committed to not sign any players from Barcelona as a sign of respect for his former employers.

Barcelona themselves plan a massive transfer window in June and can only pull off the moves they desire if they can generate sufficient revenue from player sales. At least €100 million, reports say, must flow into the Blaugranas‘ coffers in June.

On that front, Fati and Torres stand as two of Barcelona’s most saleable players given their lack of prominence under Xavi Hernandez. However, the former’s market have has seen a steep drop while the latter’s sale would only see the club make a loss considering what they paid for him.
