It appears that the new season will be a wholly revamped defensive unit at Barcelona. The club have multiple signings and departures planned, and their execution will speed up in the coming days.

Clement Lenglet, Oscar Mingueza, and Samuel Umtiti are likely to depart Camp Nou this month after seeing a majority of the last season from the sidelines. At the same time, the club are planning new signings to reinstate the depth of the department.

Andreas Christensen is said to be Barcelona’s first signing in central defence this summer but will, in all probability, not be the last one. Kalidou Koulibaly is a new option on the table and could well don the garnet and blue colours next season.

According to reports from SPORT, the Napoli defender is extremely excited at the idea of joining Barcelona next season. He has looked for an exit from Napoli for several years now, and the coming month could be crucial in making his dream a reality.

The Senegalese international has just over a year left on his contract in Italy. This puts his team under pressure to sell him as they risk losing him on a free transfer next season.

However, the big question is around the economics of the deal. Given Barcelona’s delicate economic situation, it is not known whether they will be able to afford Koulibaly’s signing and accommodate him in accordance with the wage bill.

The 30-year-old started 27 league games for Napoli last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He oversaw 11 clean sheets in Serie A and averaged close to 10 defensive actions per ninety minutes.
