Ilias Akhomach is one of many young Barcelona academy players facing an uncertain future at the club.

A right-winger by trade, the forward is regarded as one of the top players in the Barça Atletic squad. But he has been unable to break into the senior side due to intense competition from the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha, among others.

On top of that, Akhomach’s current contract at Camp Nou expires at the end of the season, which has led to speculations over his future.

According to SPORT, Barcelona have been trying to convince Akhomach to sign a new deal for quite some time now. But they are yet to reach a breakthrough as the sum offered by the club are not in line with what the player is demanding.

The young forward’s agent was recently spotted meeting Barcelona’s directors to discuss a new deal.

But it appears Barça are not too keen on overpaying for academy players, even though they consider Akhomach as a star talent, who has the ability to make a breakthrough in the senior side.

Such thoughts appeared to be shared by AC Milan, too, as the Serie A giants have entered the race to sign the young winger, the report adds.

The Rossoneri are closely monitoring Akhomach’s situation at Barça. They are expected to jump at any opportunity to sign the youngster, who could be available on a free transfer if he does not sign a contract extension at Barcelona.

AC Milan have already contacted Akhomach over a potential move to San Siro, with the Serie A giants even guaranteeing first-team action to the player.

The winger, for his part, wants to continue at Camp Nou, but as the market evolves around him, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the player in the coming months.
