The 7th of March 2021, marks a highly important day in Barcelona’s recent history. The 41st presidential elections have come at a crucial time where Barcelona are facing a host of different challenges. Tonight by 11:30 PM CET, the club will finally have a new president after months of waiting and delays.

The three candidates Victor Font, Joan Laporta and Toni Freixa have all voted. Shortly after, FC Barcelona have posted a video on their Twitter of club captain Lionel Messi arriving at the Camp Nou to cast his vote.

Interestingly, news outlet SPORT have highlighted that this is the first time the Argentine has participated in the presidential elections to vote. He seems to be well aware that this election is possibly the most crucial one in the club’s recent history.

Fellow teammates Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Jordi Alba and Riqui Puig have also made their way to the polling stations. The result of these elections is bound to play a massive role in deciding Lionel Messi’s future at the club.

Joan Laporta, the clear frontrunner for the presidency has already stated that he is confident about convincing the superstar to say. After casting his own vote Laporta even hinted that he was very certain that he is going to win.

When asked about calling Messi’s father Jorge tomorrow to attend to business, the former president replied in typically charismatic fashion: “Why tomorrow? I can talk tonight. The night is long.”
