We spoke in the preview about just how much of a tricky encounter this would be, and it proved to be an absolute nightmare for Ronald Koeman’s side. Barcelona fell to defeat by a Jaime Mata penalty, as well as struggling to generate many chances at all against a brutal and resolute Getafe.

This would have been a massive win for Barcelona had we secured it, knowing just how tough it is to come here, on top of the fact that Real Madrid have just suffered defeat to newly promoted Cádiz. But it wasn’t meant to be for Koeman’s side, who now must bounce back with victory in the Champions League midweek, before taking on Real Madrid in El Clásico.
