Barcelona are straight back in action, this time in the Champions League, following our disappointing 1-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid. Ronald Koeman’s side will visit Ukraine knowing that avoiding defeat will see his side book a spot in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. Check out my full match preview below.
Barcelona of course, do not come into this game in great spirits, having already slipped up on numerous occasions so far in La Liga, but will be pleased with how well they have started the Champions League group stages, registering three wins out of three.
However, the Catalans visit the Capital of Ukraine without Sergi Roberto, Gerard Piqué, Ronald Araújo, Samuel Umtiti, Sergio Busquets, Frenkie De Jong, Lionel Messi and Ansu Fati, leaving Ronald Koeman extremely light on numbers, especially in the centre of defence.
Watch: Barcelona 5-1 Alavés, Match Review
Barcelona emphatically defeat Alavés at the Camp Nou by five goals to one, with Trincão, Messi and Junior all on the scoresheet. This was a good confidence builder for Barça, heading into the game against PSG on Tuesday, as Ronald Koeman was able to rotate his side, whilst picking up 3 more points. Koeman also handed out a first league start to youngster Ilaix Moriba, who despite his error leading up to Rioja’s goal for Alavés, did impress on the night. But standout performers were certainly Lionel Messi and Francisco Trincão. The former showcasing his eternal genius once more, with the latter slowly building confidence and turning into an effective goal scoring winger for Barcelona.
