It is El Clásico time! Barcelona take on Real Madrid in a crunch match in La Liga Santander, with both sides knowing full well the great importance and history this fixture bears. Barcelona come into the game following a good win midweek in the Champions League, whereas Real Madrid have suffered home defeats to Cádiz and Shakhtar Donetsk in their previous fixtures, meaning there are question marks surrounding the future of Zinedine Zidane as coach. Check out all the build-up in my preview below.
What will be interesting to look out for will be whether both Jordi Alba and Sergio Ramos feature in this one, as both are crucial pillars to the way each side plays. Real Madrid are in a fragile state coming into this Clásico, but will look to get a big win at the Camp Nou to ensure their coach’s survival.
This is yet another massive test for Ronald Koeman as Barcelona coach, and winning such a fixture can certainly help define how the La Liga table will look come May.
Watch: Barcelona 5-1 Alavés, Match Review
Barcelona emphatically defeat Alavés at the Camp Nou by five goals to one, with Trincão, Messi and Junior all on the scoresheet. This was a good confidence builder for Barça, heading into the game against PSG on Tuesday, as Ronald Koeman was able to rotate his side, whilst picking up 3 more points. Check out my full match review below:
Koeman also handed out a first league start to youngster Ilaix Moriba, who despite his error leading up to Rioja’s goal for Alavés, did impress on the night. But standout performers were certainly Lionel Messi and Francisco Trincão. The former showcasing his eternal genius once more, with the latter slowly building confidence and turning into an effective goal scoring winger for Barcelona.
