The summer transfer window might be over but we have reported before that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso continues to be an option for Barcelona.

Adding to the report, SPORT has mentioned that while the Argentine’s exit from London did not materialise in the summer, a move in the January transfer window is slowly gathering pace, with Tottenham said to be demanding €15 million for his transfer.

This is mostly because Barcelona manager Xavi believes the former Villarreal midfielder perfectly fits into his scheme of things.

No starting place at Tottenham

Despite impressing his manager Ange Postecoglou during the preseason, Lo Celso is yet to earn a starting role in any Premier League match this season.

This lack of game time has sparked speculation about his future, with a potential return to La Liga being discussed.

At the moment, Real Betis are emerging as a significant contender, but Barcelona remain in the hunt as well.

So far, the midfielder has only played for a total of 63 minutes, primarily due to physical ailments that have sidelined him for Tottenham’s last three games, but he is considering his future away from Tottenham.

La Liga the most likely destination

Should Lo Celso depart, La Liga seems the most likely destination, and Barcelona could be a key player in the pursuit.

In that regard, if the Blaugrana are indeed serious about his acquisition, a fee reported to be around €15 million should be enough.

However, the late arrival of Joao Felix on the final day of the transfer market has somewhat diminished the chances of Lo Celso joining the Catalan club.

Other complications

As of today, the Portuguese’s acquisition is going to affect Barcelona’s prospects in the upcoming winter transfer market due to the complication with the Financial Fair Play.

In this case, the name of Guido Rodriguez had emerged as a potential candidate, especially if he chooses not to renew his contract with Betis, which expires at the end of the season.

But recent reports suggest that the Argentine World Cup winner is no longer an option, but Lo Celso remains on the Catalans’ radars.

However, shelling out €15 million for Lo Celso in January could be difficult due to FFP issues, more so with the focus on incorporating Vitor Roque in the winter window.
