Tottenham ask Barcelona for the price of transfer-listed star; club want more than €25 million

Earlier today, Javi Miguel of AS reported that Barcelona had decided to sell Franck Kessie in the summer, and manager Xavi Hernandez was set to speak with the Ivorian soon to explain the club’s decision.
The report also claimed that Barça already have a ‘firm offer’ from Inter Milan for the 26-year-old. But the club were favouring a cash-only operation as compared to the player-exchange deal that the Nerazzurri are proposing.
Now, SPORT is reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing Kessie and have asked Barcelona about the price that they would be willing to sell him in the summer.
Tottenham have held an interest in Kessie since the January transfer window. Even though they are going through an upheaval of sorts, as they look to name a permanent manager and a new sporting director, they seemingly remain fixed on some of their transfer targets.
Talks are already underway with Barça for the permanent signing of Clement Lenglet, who is currently on loan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Now, the Londoners have also enquired about the asking price for Kessie as they look to add him to their roster in the summer.
As per the report, Barcelona will hold out for a fee in excess of €25 million, which aligns with Javi Miguel’s update, who stated that the club could seek a sum of €30 million for the 26-year-old.
Signed only last summer for free from AC Milan, Kessie has done fairly well in his debut season but has not established himself as a starter in Xavi’s setup. Furthermore, with plans to sign Lionel Messi and Ilkay Gundogan, his game-time would be further affected.
The midfielder could have left in January but both the player and the club decided against a move. However, an exit could now be on the horizon for the Ivory Coast international.
Kessie seems attracted by the option of Inter Milan, but that operation is not favoured by Barcelona as they wish to generate revenue from the sale and not sign players in exchange.
However, the final decision will lie with the player and it remains to be seen what the future holds. As things stand, though, it is starting to look increasingly likely that Kessie will not be at Barcelona beyond the summer.
