Earlier today, FC Barcelona officially announced that young defender Hector Fort has signed a new contract with the club until the summer of 2026.

The 17-year-old has penned a new deal that will run for two more years with his release clause value increased and wages also seeing a bump.

Speaking to the club’s official media after the contract signing, Fort could not hide his joy at the renewal, stating that it meant everything for him to continue at the ‘club of his life’.

“Very happy, of course. I’m very excited to renew with the club of my life,” said the La Masia graduate.

Discussing his journey through the Barcelona youth ranks to the first-team setup, Fort remarked:

“In the end, I spent many years here, in this house. I came here in Barcelona when I was seven years old, and since then I’ve been progressing every year, participating with many teammates, playing many tournaments, until I got here today, which is the goal we’ve been working for all these years.”

The year 2024 will always be a special one for Fort, for he got his first-team breakthrough with Barça this year and he has not looked back since.

“Of course, this year is unforgettable for me. Year of first appearance. I started getting minutes this year, so I will never forget it,” the young prodigy stated.

Fort then took the opportunity to express his gratitude to everyone who has helped him along this journey, as he said:

“Yes, of course, my family, who have always been there for me, tolerate me every day. My friends, the same ones, who have been with me all my life.

“And of course, also to all the coaches, to all the staff, to all the players who have been with me during these 11 years that I have been here. Thanks to them too for helping me with this.”

Signing off, Fort revealed his ambitions for the future with FC Barcelona, saying:

“I see myself as part of the team, trying to get as many minutes as possible and, of course, to win titles, achieve as much as I can and stay here as long as possible.”
