In an interview with Eleven Sports, Brazilian footballing icon Ronaldinho offered his thoughts on various subjects across football, including his time at FC Barcelona.
The former attacker glimpsed back at some of his best moments at Barça and backed the club to succeed, especially in the backdrop of an excellent summer transfer window and an equally brilliant coach.
When asked about Barcelona’s prospects for the future, Ronaldinho stated: “Barcelona are in a moment of transition. A lot of people from my time are back at the club. I hope things will work out.”
He went on to praise Xavi and the players, backing them to succeed in the years to come, adding: “They have a great coach and fantastic players incoming. They also have young players with a lot of talent. Barça have everything to get back to the top.”
Ronaldinho also reminisced his time at FC Barcelona, with the Brazilian addressing his love for the club.
“Barça are the team where I played for the longest period. It is a team that I really, really love,” he said.
During his illustrious career, the 42-year-old played for Barcelona between 2003 to 2008. He made over 200 competitive appearances during this stretch, winning several accolades and famously providing the assist for Lionel Messi’s first goal for Barcelona.
But Ronaldinho appeared rather coy when asked about Messi’s standing as the best player of all time.
“It is difficult to say, there are so many other players. I don’t like to compare. You had Maradona, Pele, there were so many. Every one of them was the best in their own time,” he added.
In the past, the Brazilian has openly claimed that Messi is the best of his generation, but that, for him, it is difficult to label him as the GOAT. He also clubbed Ronaldo Nazario along with Pele and Maradona in the past, comparing them to Messi.
