The injury-torn Barcelona were handed a boost ahead of the upcoming El Clasico as one of Real Madrid’s star players in Antonio Rudiger, is a doubt for the match.

The German international was left out of the Real Madrid squad ahead of the Real Valladolid game due to knee discomfort, sparking fears over his availability in the Copa Del Rey semifinal against Barcelona.

However, as reported by Sergio Quirante, Rudiger’s knee injury is not as serious as assumed. The German, who has been a standout figure in the Real Madrid backline this season, is set to undergo ultrasonic tests tomorrow, which will determine the extent of his injury.

Despite Real Madrid’s shaky defence this season, Rudiger has been one of the bright performers, particularly due to his leadership. His potential absence, therefore, could serve as a boost for a Barcelona side that are dealing with its own share of injuries.

The Catalans indeed are set to miss out on the service of Ousmane Dembele, Pedri and Andreas Christensen in the upcoming Clasico. Further, their key midfielder Frenkie de Jong remains a big doubt, especially after suffering discomfort on Saturday.

Although the injury is not thought to be serious, the potential absence of Rudiger could spell trouble for Real Madrid. They will be relying on the likes of David Alaba and Eder Militao to hold their defence together, with Alaba having struggled with injuries this season.

More details regarding Rudiger’s fitness will be released over the coming 24 hours as Real Madrid continue to assess the situation of the German international.
