The offloading operation at Barcelona is starting to gain traction, and understandably so, considering the Catalan giants are starting to get impatient about Lionel Messi’s contract renewal, which has seemingly hit a few roadblocks. And naturally, most of them are financial.

Aside from Financial Fair Play regulations weighing down the Argentine’s renewal, the La Liga salary caps are also delaying the final details, as president Joan Laporta and his board buckle down to try and find solutions to accommodate his new contract.

Midfielder Miralem Pjanic has been on the list of expendables for a fair amount of time. His arrival from Juventus as part of a shady swap deal with Arthur Melo was almost set up to fail. After an extremely unremarkable inaugural season, Barcelona are naturally looking to offload him.

According to recent reports from The Daily Express relayed via Sky Sports, there may be a lucky break. The English outlet suggests that Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were in pursuit of the Bosnian.

Thanks to former Juventus director Fabio Paratici taking over at Spurs, who knows Pjanic well, the North London side look primed to beat United for his signature. Barcelona are more than willing to let the midfielder depart.

The Catalans had even been considering terminating his contract alongside Samuel Umtiti’s, but if an offer is coming in, they will readily accept. For all means and purposes, the Bosnian’s time at Camp Nou is over. Just the destination remains to be confirmed.
