According to a report published by Cuatro, Lionel Messi has reason to believe in the Barcelona project and is much closer to staying right now than he was some months ago.

After his departure from Barcelona was derailed by Josep Bartomeu in the summer of 2020, Messi has been the subject of constant controversy at the club, starting from his underwhelming performances early in the season, to breaking records. The Argentine also made sure to provide Barcelona fans with an official update mid-way through the season through an interview, stating that he is exciting for the season ahead.

Well, it looks like his word were not in vain. The report states that while Messi was tempted by the offer made by Paris Saint-Germain, and reports about him learning French soon started to gain fire, he has started to see the greener grass at the Camp Nou. Messi is the only person who knows about this decision, and it looks like there might be reason to be joyful for the Barça faithful.

As it stands, only two clubs are linked to the six-time Ballon d’Or winner. One of them PSG, who have publicly admitted through their sporting direct Leonardo their interest in Messi’s signature. The other club, with which he was strongly linked in the summer of 2020 was Manchester City. They offer Messi probably the best short-term plan in the form of Pep Guardiola and a very complete team featuring the best in multiple positions.

Despite getting a head-start, it looks like City may be behind PSG at this point. The capital outfit have not stopped building pressure on Leo with comments from best-friend Neymar Jr, national teammate Leandro Paredes, and very recently former Argentina international Angel di Maria.

While Barcelona may look like they are smooth sailing right now, the season is hectic, and the waves are choppy. Messi has been reported to be a happier man right now, but a humiliating exit from the Champions League or another trophy-less season might force Messi’s hand once again, and he might be looking at the exit door.
