Report: Barcelona hit with major setback regarding Ansu Fati’s recovery

The latest reports from Cuatro bear bad news on the front of Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati’s recovery. It is possible that he will have to undergo surgery once again after facing setbacks in his recovery. He last played in early November in a La Liga game against Real Betis where he was taken off at halftime. Scans later revealed that the teenager had sustained significant damage to the internal meniscus of his left knee.

Fati had to immediately undergo surgery, which was performed by Dr. Ramon Cugat with the supervision of Barcelona’s medical team. The initial time frame for the injury layoff was declared to be 4 months. However, the recent report suggests that there have been setbacks and the recovery is not as far along as it should have been.

After the surgery on November 9, Fati began recuperating and recently started a regenerative biological treatment under Dr. Cugat, supervised by the club’s medical team. Earlier in January, there were positive sensations about his recovery. Although there was no return date specified, updates suggested that Fati’s recovery was following a very satisfactory course with some reports even suggesting that he may return in time for the PSG clash in the Champions League.

Now however, newspaper AS are also reporting that the youngster’s return will most likely be delayed. Dr. Ramon Cugat is reportedly in daily contact with Fati to ensure the remaining stretch of his recovery goes as smoothly as possible. However, the doctors are not fully ruling out the possibility of another operation. This would most certainly be a massive setback and would probably mean that Fati misses the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old was in sparkling form prior to his injury and was one of the Blaugrana’s key players in attack. He had racked up five goals and two assists across all competitions before the setback. Barcelona and their fans will be hoping that the recovery goes smoothly and that Fati does not need to go under the knife again.
