Reports from The Athletic bring to light some ideas running in the mind of Arsenal’s management involving Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal.

The English media outlet report that the London-based side are looking to strengthen their fullback position which is currently occupied by Hector Bellerin.

One of the ideas popping in the offices in London is a potential swap deal with Barcelona involving the two fullbacks. The move would see Emerson Royal move to the Gunners while Hector Bellerin would move to Camp Nou.

However, The Athletic also advance the fact that the deal is in a very rudimentary stage, with nothing advanced at the moment.

Bellerin was born in Barcelona and a part of the Catalans academy and youth setup. In the summer of 2011, the youngster moved to Arsenal where he signed his first professional contract.

The youngster never made the big jump to the first team in his first spell at Barcelona, the same being the reason for his exit. However, the window for his return seems to be opening up little by little again.

Nevertheless, Barcelona are well backed in the right-back position. In addition to Emerson Royal, Ronald Koeman has the likes of Sergi Roberto, Sergino Dest and Oscar Mingueza at his disposal.

Even if the deal does go through, the youngster will find it difficult to breakthrough. Prima facie however, the deal looks unlikely to happen since Barcelona do now require reinforcements in the fullback department.

Nevertheless, the deal could lighten up if a striker from the Gunners could be included in the deal.
