With Hansi Flick soon expected to join Barcelona as head coach, the club are scouring the market for potential reinforcements heading into the summer transfer window.

One of the target areas for the Barcelona board is the creative department, with former youth player Xavi Simons emerging as one of the top targets.

After a stellar season in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, Simons has generated a lot of buzz in Europe and his parent club PSG have now given him the green light to choose his next destination, although the youngster is only allowed to leave on a loan deal.

It was reported earlier that Simons is leaning towards a move to his former club FC Barcelona and even sent a cryptic social media post a few days back.

Big boost for Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo, Simons remains determined to join FC Barcelona in the coming summer, despite receiving assurances of a starting place at PSG next season.

Simons’ dream is to play for the Barcelona first-team and the youngster realizes he has an excellent chance of fulfilling that dream in the coming summer.

Keeping that in mind, Simons has informed PSG of his desire to join Barcelona and will now wait for the Blaugrana until the club sort out its salary limit and gain an idea as to how much they can spend in the coming summer.

Is time running out?

Despite Simons’ conviction to join Barcelona, the club must take swift action in their pursuit of the former youth player.

Simons, after all, has been courted by a slew of top clubs across Europe, including RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, among others.

The report adds that Barcelona are expected to get a better idea of their Financial Fair Play margins in the first week of June, after which, we can expect the Catalans to come up with an offer for Simons.
