Barcelona midfielder Pedri has extended support to his teammate Gavi, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season through an ACL tear, saying that during this difficult phase of his life, everyone must help him.
Gavi suffered a serious knee injury during Spain’s 7-1 win over Georgia and while it was evident that the magnitude of the injury was extremely serious, medical reports confirmed the news that he will not only miss the remainder of the season but also UEFA Euro next year.
When asked about his teammate’s injury, Pedri said that Barcelona have lost a great player in Gavi.
“First, I want to send a lot of support to Gavi. He is going through difficult times and I know what that means and I know the feeling of being injured and it is the worst thing that can happen to a football player,” Pedri told FC Barcelona.
“We must all help him. I think the team will lose a lot of things without him. A lot. So much strength, and so much love from the club. We must all make up for this by uniting together and being stronger than ever.”
Barcelona’s tribute with an unlikely result
Gavi’s teammates were unable to present him with the desired tribute last night – a victory.
The stalemate against Rayo Vallecano left a sense of discontent within the Barcelona team not only due to the outcome that widened the gap between them and the league leaders but also because there was a collective aspiration to bring joy to the talented young footballer.
Prior to the game, two noteworthy instances highlighted the fondness for Gavi. The first, quite conspicuous, was the pre-match shirt message which said, “Estem amb tu, Gavi” (“We are with you, Gavi”).
However, a more subtle yet heartfelt gesture of affection remained somewhat overlooked. During the initial lineup formation for photographers, a significant gap was observed between Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres in the bottom row.
It goes without saying that this gesture served as a means of conveying to Gavi that his teammates are eagerly awaiting his presence and they hold a special place for him in their hearts.
