Pedri was a key player in Barcelona’s dominant 5-1 victory over Sevilla, scoring his third goal of the season and showcasing some of his best form to date.

His performance highlights his growing influence in the team, as he continues to establish himself as one of the most reliable players in the squad.

Meanwhile, the match also marked the return of Gavi to the team, something Pedri was clearly thrilled about.

Importance of the win

After the game, Pedri reflected on the importance of the victory, especially with the upcoming Champions League fixtures. The win not only provided a crucial three points but also gave the team a confidence boost heading into their next challenges.

“It was very important because of the games to come, but we knew that the important game now was this one. We had to leave with three points and good feelings for the Champions League match,” he began saying.

Originally set to play in a more advanced position, Pedri had to adjust due to an injury to Eric Garcia during the warm-up.

Despite the unexpected change, Pedri was unfazed and adapted to his role, demonstrating his versatility and willingness to play wherever the manager needed him.

“I was going to start a little further up front and it’s a shame Eric’s injury in the warm-up. I played a little further back, but I’m ready for whatever the manager asks of me and wherever he puts me to give my best”

Gavi’s return

Pedri’s satisfaction wasn’t solely from the team’s win but also from seeing Gavi back on the pitch.

“[I am] very happy with the victory, but above all with the return of Gavi,” he said.

His appreciation for his teammate was clear when he took a special moment during the match to hand Gavi the captain’s armband, a gesture that added even more significance to Gavi’s return.

The moment was meaningful not just for Gavi but for the team as a whole, showing the strong bond and respect the players have for each other.

Pedri explained that with neither Frenkie de Jong nor other senior players on the pitch, he saw it as the perfect opportunity to give Gavi the armband.

He believed Gavi had earned it through hard work and resilience, making it a fitting reward for his efforts.

“Neither Frenkie nor anyone else was there. It was the perfect moment to give it to him, I think he deserves it because he has worked very hard to be here today. I am grateful to him for never giving up, for always working.”

This thoughtful act further underscored the team’s unity and Pedri’s leadership qualities. Overall, it was a memorable night for Barcelona, with Pedri’s performance and Gavi’s return taking centre stage.

“We love him very much and the fans do too. Carlos (Naval) told me that Iñaki was more experienced, but I thought I had to give it to him, it was his moment. I think that was the best thing,” he concluded.
