Following a thoroughly dominant display against Huesca in La Liga, teenager Pedri Gonzalez seemed on top of the world. The Barcelona midfielder spoke to the media following the team’s 4-1 victory, expressing his delight about his international call-up and the joy of playing with Lionel Messi.
Pedri was once again one of the best players on the pitch for the Blaugrana as he chipped in with an assist for the second of Barcelona’s four goals, which was scored by Antoine Griezmann. A superb brace from Lionel Messi on a record-equalling night and a first goal for Oscar Mingueza capped off a stunning display from the Catalans.
Barcelona are now just four points behind Atletico Madrid, sitting second in the La Liga table. The title race is now well and truly wide open once again. Pedri’s thoughts after the match are as follows.
On the result: “We knew that it would be a tough match regardless of their ranking in La Liga. They’re doing a good job, but the important thing is the three points that we won.”
On the opponents: “Huesca is a team that presses hard and works a lot. We got the three points which was most important.”
On Messi’s quality and playing alongside him: “Playing with Messi is an absolute joy. I enjoy it during the games, but also dring training. I always try to look for him, if you give it to him, something is bound to happen. Every match Leo proves he’s the best.”
On his Spain call-up: “I was at home and I was surprised that I was given the opportunity to represent my country. I’m very happy. It’s a pride that Enrique included me for Spain.”
On the team’s resilience and the title race: “We knew that the leader had dropped points, and now we are four points behind Atleti.”
