Papers: Barcelona gets closer to La Liga after Atletico drops points

Barça get closer to La Liga, as Atlético drops two points in their draw at Getafe. The Catalans will have the chance to cut the deficit with the Colchoneros down to four points if they beat Huesca on Monday (9 PM CET) at the Camp Nou.
The cover of Sunday’s edition of Sport, emphasizes that now that Atlético have enlarged their result crisis in the league, Barcelona have a great opportunity to completely get in the fight for the trophy.

Atlético’s game was one to quickly forget for Cholo Simeone’s side, as they were not able to score a goal to 10 men Getafe who always knew what to do and played as they always do, constantly pausing the game with fouls and wasting playing time. Although the LaLiga’s leaders did deserve a goal because of the multiple great chances they had, Getafe resisted and the game finished 0-0.
The truth is that now, Ronald Koeman’s team has the chance to fully compete against Atlético for the Spanish football crown, as their point difference could be cut to just four if the Blaugranas get their job done on Monday at home against the league’s last side Huesca.
Another team that had a difficult game this weekend is Real Madrid. After going down to the recently promoted Elche at home, Benzema came up clutch as the French scored a brace to comeback. Madrid’s number nine scored a header in the 70th minute and a magnificent goal in the injury time, keeping Los Blancos the hope for a late La Liga run alive. However, Zinedine Zidane’s side is still six points behind the leaders.
Thoroughly analyzing the situation, Barcelona have a gigantic chance to win two trophies this season. A season that was supposed to be a transition year, Koeman’s first year, and hypothetically Messi’s last. Just two months ago, who would have thought that the Catalan club would be in such a position, unbelievable, right? This is also a great chance for Koeman to prove himself to Joan Laporta and his new board, as it is yet to be decided if the Dutch will continue being next season’s coach. This trophy-winning might even help Leo Messi with his decision regarding his future at Camp Nou.
We will see if the Barça get it done on Monday and keep their excellent streak in La Liga. Surely, if they continue playing as they did in Paris on Wednesday, they will have a higher chance of winning not only one but two trophies.
