Official: Valencia denies reports of Barcelona reaching an agreement with Soler

Valencia have blatantly denied the media reports that Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement with their 25-year-old midfielder Carlos Soler.

In a statement, made public on their social media channels, the team clearly denied the reports, saying there is no deal in place.

“Valencia flatly denies that he has an agreement or that there is a negotiation with Barcelona for the transfer of Carlos Soler,” read the statement.

The rumours of Soler’s potential move to Barcelona surfaced when Diario AS exclusively said the deal, which is worth €20 million, is ‘more advanced than many would think at this point’.

The news outlet also claimed that in order to generate funds for the project, manager Xavi and sporting director Mateu Alemany have agreed to sell Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman, who is reportedly wanted by Manchester United, has been valued at €70 million.

Barça intend to use the aforementioned capital to fund the Soler operation. But if that was indeed the case, Valencia’s statement comes as a huge blow for everyone involved since the player, himself, had said to have agreed to the conditions of the transfer.

Valencia not only denied the rumours but also mentioned that they are currently in negotiations with the player over a plausible extension since his current deal runs out in 2023.

“The club is currently in open negotiations with the footballer and his agents to extend his contractual relationship with Valencia CF,” the club added.

Why are Barcelona monitoring Soler?

As quoted by Diario AS, Barcelona officials believe the deal represents a great deal of profit. If they manage to sell de Jong for €70 million and add Soler to the roster for €20 million, it will represent a profit that is worth €50 million on paper.

Furthermore, with de Jong failing to put on consistent performances, manager Xavi is of the idea that Soler would ease off the pressure since he has a good relationship with the other members of the Barcelona squad.

As things stand though, the deal now seems highly unlikely since Valencia, themselves, have denied any possibility of the transfer.
