The official announcement is finally here. Barcelona midfield sensation Gavi has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay at Spotify Camp Nou until the summer of 2026.
The 18-year-old prodigy had exploded onto the scenes last season and has since grown into one of the most important cogs in the Barcelona midfield unit.
So far, he has already made 54 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring two goals and registering six assists. He has also become a regular member of the Spanish national team.
Gavi’s previous contract was about to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign. It had sparked a lot of interest in him from clubs across Europe. However, the teenage prodigy always wanted to stay put at Barcelona.
Negotiations took some time, but an agreement had been in place for a while now. And Barcelona have now finally confirmed that Gavi has signed a new four-year contract that will keep him with the club until 2026.
As was the case with the likes of Pedri and Ansu Fati, Gavi’s new deal also comes up with a massive release clause worth €1 billion.
With the official announcement now out of the way, the event for the contract signing is set to take place on Thursday at Spotify Camp Nou, following which both Gavi and club president Joan Laporta will speak.
Gavi has been with Barcelona since 2015 and made his first-team debut at the age of just 17 years and 24 days, the fourth youngest in Barça history. The teenage sensation is primed for a bright future at the club.
