FC Barcelona have announced the squad list for the game against Cadiz in gameweek 12 of the La Liga. The Blaugranas come into this fixture on the back of a convincing 3-0 display against Ferencvaros in the Champions League, and will hope to build on the 11 goals they have scored in the last three games.

Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen did not travel with the team to Budapest but have been included for the trip to Cadiz. It is almost certain that the trio will all be seen on the get-go, and Culés will be hoping that resting Messi does the team a world of good.

The full squad: ter Stegen, Neto, Inaki Pena; Dest, Lenglet, Mingueza, Araujo, Alba, Firpo; Coutinho, Aleña, Pedri, Pjanic, Puig, Busquets, de Jong; Griezmann, Trincão, Dembele, Braithwaite, Messi

Absentees: Pique, Sergi Roberto, Ansu Fati, Samuel Umtiti

More good news comes in the form the defence, as Ronald Araujo has been included in the squad list after missing nearly a month of football post picking up an injury against Juventus in the Champions League.

Matheus Fernandes has been dropped after failing to make it on the pitch for two games straight, while Koeman has maintained his match-day squad cap of 21.

Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto, and Ansu Fati are still injured for several weeks, but Samuel Umtiti might make an appearance soon, even though he has been linked to Juventus in the near past.

The game to rest Messi against Dynamo Kyiv paid off successfully as the club captain ran riots against Osasuna on the weekend. If he is able to mirror that performance against Cadiz, who play a low-block, the team is in safe hands. On the other hand, Martin Braithwaite and Antoine Griezmann will look to build on their spectacular form, as they look to cement their spot in the team.

Lautaro Martínez talks about the summer rumours of playing alongside Messi

It has been quite a while since we’ve last heard about any concrete rumours of Lautaro Martínez potentially joining Barcelona. The Argentine striker was previously a hot target for the Catalans but following a long hassling period with Inter, and some untimely financial issues, the Azulgranas had to abandon their quest.

Now, other players seem to take priority over the young star as Ronald Koeman looks to strengthen the squad even further. However, back in Italy where Martínez is currently playing, the media seem to still have some interest in that particular story.

Recently, the Argentine was asked about the summer rumours of him wanting to play alongside his compatriot, Lionel Messi. The quotes were given to Gazzetta dello Sport but were relayed by Calciomercato.

“It [playing with Messi] was a dream for me too, of course, because playing with him is fantastic. He is the best player in the world. I am lucky enough to play in the national team with him. We, young people, look up to him,” said Lautaro.

These statements don’t come as a particularly big surprise to many. As he mentions himself, young players look up to Leo and who wouldn’t want to share the pitch with him?

Seeing Martínez at the Camp Nou, however, would be extremely difficult given the club’s current circumstances and Inter’s unwillingness to lower their asking price. He is a talent, though, and that much has to be said.

Maybe the transfer can happen further down the line but at the moment, playing with Messi, apart from the national team, could remain a distant dream for the young Argentine star.
