After booking a place in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals last night, FC Barcelona have learnt their opponents for the upcoming stage of the competition. Xavi Hernandez’s men will be facing Real Sociedad in the last-eight stages of the King’s Cup.

Barça started their journey in the Copa del Rey with a hard-fought 4-3 win over minnows CF Intercity in the Round of 32. Following that, they defeated AD Ceuta with a resounding 5-0 scoreline last night in the Round of 16.

By doing so, the Catalan giants progressed to their 18th quarter-final of the Copa del Rey in the 21st century.

Along with Barcelona, fellow La Liga sides Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Valencia, Athletic Club, Atletico Madrid, and Osasuna have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Now, it has been determined by the draw that they will be taking on Real Sociedad in the next round of the competition.

The Blaugrana’s last-eight opponents achieved progression to this stage after getting past the likes of Cazalegas, Coria, Logrones, and Mallorca along the way.

Unlike draws for the previous rounds, this was an open draw with no seeding. And the first name drawn will be playing at home, meaning Barcelona’s quarter-final tie will take place at Camp Nou.

The Catalans have already defeated Real Sociedad once this season in La Liga, beating them 4-1 away at the Reale Arena back in August 2022. They will be hoping for a similar outcome in the cup tie next week.

The quarter-final matches are scheduled to be played on 24, 25, and 26 January 2023.
