Barcelona have had a stellar summer transfer window so far, but the business at Camp Nou is still not over if a report from SPORT is to be believed.
The Blaugrana have made headline signings like Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski while also adding Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Pablo Torre to their ranks. They are poised to close the signing of Jules Kounde imminently, making it for an exciting window for fans.
However, as per the report from SPORT, Barcelona could be planning to add another ‘star’ player to their ranks before the transfer window closes.
The Catalans have already become one of the biggest spenders in Europe this summer, but it seems like manager Xavi Hernandez is still looking for more investment into the squad.
However, more signings could be dependent on the exit operations as Barça will need to make room for the new arrivals on their wage bill.
They are trying to offload Frenkie de Jong, who remains reluctant to leave. The sale of Marc-Andre ter Stegen is being looked at as Plan B in the scenario that the midfielder does not leave.
Barça Universal’s take
It would be safe to assume that Xavi is unlikely to delve into the market for another attacker, given the plethora of options already at his disposal following the arrivals of Raphinha and Lewandowski, and the re-signing of Ousmane Dembele.
Another defender could be an option, with Athletic Club’s Inigo Martinez being linked heavily as he would add experience to the ranks, along with a left-footed option in the centre-back department.
Chelsea captain and legend Cesar Azpilicueta remains a top target for Xavi Hernandez, considering that Barça need a new right-back. His ability to play anywhere across the backline would add valuable depth to the roster as well.
Azpilicueta’s Chelsea teammate Marcos Alonso continues to be on the radars of the La Liga giants as well.
Bernardo Silva could be another option that Barcelona will likely consider, albeit his signing would largely be contingent on Frenkie de Jong leaving Camp Nou, which, as things stand, is starting to look complicated.
It will be interesting to see what area the club decide to focus their efforts on once Kounde arrives. But it would be safe to say that Barça’s rebuild under Xavi is off to a fine start and is generating a lot of excitement among the supporters.
