In a recent interview with The Times, Cody Gakpo offered his thoughts on several subjects across the footballing world. However, the highlight of the interview saw him reveal his obsession with former Barcelona players.

The PSV Eindhoven starlet has emerged as one of the most in-demand players in European football lately, following his consistent performances in the Eredivisie.

The Dutchman rose to prominence last season when he was involved in 27 league goals. This time around, the attacker has continued his excellent run of form and has taken part in 24 goals in all competitions.

Needless to say, Gakpo’s performances have seen him become a subject of a potential move elsewhere. The player himself had revealed his desire to join a big club like Barcelona in the near future and in the interview with The Times, he once again floated the idea by revealing his love for former Barça players.

“I had posters of PSV and Barcelona players like Afellay when I was young. When I was older, I had posters of Ronaldinho and Eto’o. I was only a huge fan of PSV, but I liked teams that played good football,” he said.

While Gakpo had already hinted at his love for Barcelona earlier, his comments also come in the midst of reports that suggest the Catalans are exploring a move for the PSV Eindhoven starlet.

With the likes of Memphis Depay, and even Ousmane Dembele facing an uncertain future ahead, Barcelona remain interested in reinforcing their ranks in the offensive unit. Gakpo, to that end, could prove to be an excellent option, although the Blaugrana are set to face stiff competition in their pursuit of the Dutchman.
