Manchester United set to offer €24 million bumper contract to Barcelona star – report

As we near the summer transfer window, Barcelona have been dealt with a few dilemmas in regard to player sales.
Frenkie de Jong, in particular, has become a subject of interest for many clubs across Europe. Head coach Xavi is keen on keeping hold of the player, but his potential sale from Camp Nou could greatly benefit Barcelona, from a financial perspective.
Barcelona have appeared quite receptive to offers for de Jong lately, even reportedly agreeing a deal with Manchester United. However, the player ultimately pulled the plug on the deal as he has no intention to leave Barcelona right now.
Manchester United, though, are not deterred by de Jong’s snub and are weighing up a more lucrative contract in an attempt to lure the midfielder to Old Trafford, as per Mundo Deportivo.
The report suggests the Premier League giants are prepared to offer de Jong a bumper €24 million per season salary at Old Trafford.
It would make the Dutchman the highest-paid player in the Manchester United camp, ahead of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Such a lucrative contract is indicative of Man United’s desperation to sign the midfielder. It is quite apparent that new coach Erik ten Hag rates the player highly and wants to incorporate him as part of his new-look setup at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag knows de Jong quite well during their time together at Ajax. The two have even held talks earlier this year, over the player’s prospects at Manchester United.
However, as things stand, Frenkie de Jong has appeared quite apprehensive about leaving Barcelona and has resisted all attempts from Manchester United.
But with a €24 million per season contract reportedly in the offing, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the talented midfielder, as he faces enormous pressure to leave Camp Nou.
