Over the past few days, it has emerged that Xavi might stay at Barcelona if certain conditions are met.

Interestingly, one of them is to get the desired players who can elevate the team’s performance and as reported before, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva is his preferred choice among others.

In this context, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Portugal international is, in fact, considering leaving the Premier League champions over the summer and he would very much like to play for Barcelona.

Bernardo’s acquisition might change things

Should Xavi decide to stay, he seeks assurances regarding significant signings such as Martin Zubimendi or Joshua Kimmich for the pivot position, and Bernardo or a similar player for the midfield.

Moreover, there is a possibility that this season could be his last at Manchester City as sources close to the player suggest he seriously contemplated leaving last summer, especially with strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

While he ultimately remained with City and extended his contract, speculation persists that he may depart this summer if presented with a compelling sporting opportunity after seven successful seasons at Manchester City.

Could this finally be the time?

It is to be noted that last summer, both Xavi and club president Joan Laporta were excited about the prospect of signing Bernardo. The club even engaged in discussions with Manchester City regarding the player.

However, Barcelona’s financial constraints due to Financial Fair Play ultimately thwarted the deal. In response, he opted to extend his contract with Manchester City for an additional season until 2026.

Notably, he included a termination clause advantageous to Barcelona, set at approximately €58 million. Now, with the club’s management now eager to convince Xavi, the focus has once again shifted to Bernardo.

Xavi had been insistent on acquiring a player of his calibre, and the Portuguese remains the manager’s preferred choice for the interior midfield position.

However, only time will tell whether things work out for Bernardo and Barcelona this time around.
