Earlier this week, reports emerged claiming that Liverpool had been in contact with the representatives of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele over a possible transfer in the summer.

The 25-year-old Frenchman is in the final month of his contract with Barcelona and talks over a renewal are heading nowhere. As things stand, the winger looks poised for an exit on a Bosman transfer when his current deal runs out.

Chelsea and PSG have been mooted as the likeliest destinations for Dembele. But Liverpool’s name also was dragged into the conversation recently.

However, journalists Sique Rodriguez and Bruno Alemany have dismissed those speculations while speaking on SER Catalunya’s Que T’hi Jugues.

As per the report, Liverpool have no interest in signing Dembele, whatsoever and the club officials ‘laughed’ at the speculations that claimed they had been in touch with the forward’s camp over a potential transfer.

Liverpool are in the market for a new wide attacker as Sadio Mane is reportedly headed to Bayern Munich in the summer. Some doubts remain over the long-term continuity of Mohamed Salah as well, considering his contract expires in 2023.

So, the UEFA Champions League finalists are likely to be on the prowl for a new winger in the transfer market this summer. However, contrary to what was claimed previously, Barcelona’s Dembele is seemingly not under consideration at Anfield as of now.

Chelsea, though, could emerge as serious suitors for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. The Blues’ boss, Thomas Tuchel, worked with Dembele at Borussia Dortmund and got the best out of him during the 2016/17 campaign.

With Liverpool not in the picture and PSG having concerns over a move, it could leave Chelsea as the best-placed club to land Dembele on a Bosman deal come summer.
