As speculations over Lionel Messi’s potential return to Barcelona gather pace, Catalunya Radio has come up with another update, suggesting that the player and Xavi are in regular conversation.

It appears Messi often tells Xavi that he wants to return to Camp Nou. The two talk about the team, the games, the atmosphere, and the dressing room. Messi himself pushes the idea of his return to the club.

This serves as an ideal boost for Barcelona in their bid to re-sign the Argentine international, whose prospects of continuing at PSG have grown stagnant lately. He was expected to pen a new contract but is now reportedly keen on rejoining his former team.

PSG are actively looking to woo Messi by preparing a more lucrative contract. However, Barcelona have the sentimental advantage, as the name Messi is often closely associated with the club itself.

In fact, Catalunya Radio confirms that Leo Messi often describes Barcelona as “we”. So whenever he is discussing a match result with Xavi, he often describes it as “we have won” or “we played well”.

This serves as an ideal trigger for Barça to work ever harder and sort out the technical details that will allow them to re-sign Messi ahead of the coming season.

The club are currently in talks with La Liga executives, seeking a green light over their economic viability plan so that they can table a contract offer for the Argentine. It is essential that the Blaugrana can offer lucrative terms to Messi, who does have some resentment over the way he was allowed to leave the club in 2021.

Joan Laporta has tried to calm those hard feelings and may even meet the player in person, once there is a green light from La Liga over the club’s economic viability plan.
