Last night’s game against Huesca was special for the Barcelona faithful for multiple reasons. The club captain, Lionel Messi, regarded as the most important in the history of the club became the player to don the Barca shirt, the most number of times.

He matched another Barcelona legend, Xavi Hernandez to reach 767 appearances for the Catalans. To mark this great occasion, Messi produced a performance to match it and has featured in WhoScored’s La Liga Team of the Week with a perfect 10 rating beside his name.

What has been a regular occurrence this year, Messi started the scoring yet again after taking a deft touch to take him away from his marker before unleashing a beautiful curling effort from outside the box with the ball striking the crossbar as it went in, to give him his 20th league goal for the season. He has now managed to achieve this feat for 13 straight seasons in La Liga and is of course the first player to do so.

The Argentine as we all know has never been just about goals, he is the attack himself. With Huesca scoring from a questionable penalty right at the stroke of halftime, Messi made sure that the momentum shifted back in Barca’s favor as he teed up Oscar Mingueza with a sublime cross from the edge of the box.

Mingueza, who is fast becoming a fan-favourite scored his first professional goal for the Catalans and also features alongside Messi in the La Liga Team of the Week. He deservedly takes his place in the heart of the defense this time around after a string of impressive performances.

With Barcelona comfortably in the driving seat, Messi completed the rout in the 90th minute with yet another majestic finish from outside the box to make it 4-1. Both Leo and Mingueza have featured in SofaScore’s Team of the Week as well with the Argentine expectedly taking the highest rating among his peers.
