Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski is set to enjoy ten days off following Poland’s 2022 FIFA World Cup exit at hands of France, reports Spanish news outlet Diario AS. The 34-year-old is expected to be back at the club’s training facilities on December 14.

Meanwhile, the other internationals who ended their World Cup run, namely Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Andreas Christensen are scheduled to return on December 12.

Now, Lewandowski has indeed been given an extended holiday, but his return to club football is pretty much a suspense, as it must be remembered that he was sent off in his last Barcelona outing against Osasuna following a second yellow card in a 2-1 win.

The Poland captain was hit with a three-match ban – one for the sending-off and the additional two games due to the gesture he made while leaving the pitch, which the referees deemed was directed towards them and considered offensive.

As it turns out, the RFEF Appeals Committee rejected Barcelona’s appeal and the team will now head to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD).

If the decision is still upheld, the Poland international will miss Barcelona’s next three La Liga games against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid and Getafe.

Meanwhile, away beyond Lewandowski’s troubles, Xavi currently has only five senior players available for the training sessions, namely, Marcos Alonso, Hector Bellerin, Pablo Torre, Inaki Pena and Sergi Roberto.

In addition, the players who are close to recovering are defender Ronald Araujo and midfielder Franck Kessie.

As far Barcelona’s representation in the FIFA World Cup is concerned, they already have five players – Raphinha (Brazil), Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong (Netherlands), and Ousmane Dembele and Jules Kounde (France) – in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Furthermore, if Spain manage to eliminate Morocco, the representation will increase to 13.
