Barcelona and Nike have been on a long journey together. The Catalan jersey has almost become inseparable from the US-based sports manufacturer over time, but it is now not clear how long the partnership will continue.

The two institutions are currently tackling serious friction in their understanding, with a split very likely in the near future. Nevertheless, business must continue until officially announced otherwise and a recent leak shows that Nike have already worked on the team’s jersey for the 2024-25 season.

A thing of beauty

As revealed by Esvaphane, Barcelona’s away jersey for the 2024-25 season will return to black as the main theme. It will be the first time the aggressive theme is chosen after the team’s black-and-gold jersey four years ago.

The black base will be decorated by Blaugrana stripes on the collars, sleeves and the dominant side strap. Further, both the Nike swoosh and the Barcelona crest are designed black-on-black with a gorgeous red-blue fading outline.

The centre of the shirt has the name and logo of the primary sponsor, Spotify, in deep red. Notably, there is no fading gradient on the sponsor logo. The shirt is expected to be available from July 2024.

Adieu to Nike?

Nike’s current deal with Barcelona runs until 2028 and is worth around €150 million plus an additional €50 million. The Catalan, however, feel that the aforementioned figure does not do justice to the team’s returns and thus ask for a higher investment.

If the ties between Barcelona and Nike do indeed severe as appears likely, Puma and New Balance are well placed to take over as the chief sponsors.

They could take over the shirt production from as early as the 2025-26 season, in which case the previously described jersey could be Barcelona’s last away shirt with the Nike logo for a long time.
