While speaking to Radio Marca, Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez has revealed the previously unknown story behind Pedri Gonzalez’s transfer to Barcelona. The reported cost of the transfer was initially 5 million euros. However, Ramirez has set the record straight, uncovering that the true price of the talented midfielder could reach much higher.

In the interview, Ramirez said: “Everyone thinks we sold Pedri for €5 million, but we’ve made €10 [million] so far and it could rise to €30 or €35 million. It was the sale of a youth player who had not yet made his debut in Segunda, Segunda B or Tercera.”

Pedri has had a fantastic start to life at FC Barcelona. With his incredible talent and technical ability to boot, the 18-year-old has already established himself as a regular starter in the team. Pedri and his family are lifelong Barça fans and the move was a dream come true. Pedri arrived at the club as a relative unknown, having never played even in the third division of Spanish football, but is now taking La Liga by storm.

When the Canarian youngster joined Barça, he revealed that even coach Ronald Koeman was unaware of him. The Dutchman, however, gave him a message stating that he did not know much about Pedri and that he would have to show his abilities in training. Pedri clearly took the message very positively, and his motivation has paid off, as Ronald Koeman has fully put his trust in the young Spaniard.

With 29 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona already this season, Pedri looks set to be a mainstay in this Blaugrana side for years to come. He has already notched three goals and four assists for the club as well as drawn comparisons to his idol Andres Iniesta. If Pedri continues on this trajectory, even 35 million euros will end up being a steal.
