It is no secret that Barcelona continue to maintain a strong interest in signing Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia

However, if a report from Mundo Deportivo is to be believed, the La Liga team is becoming increasingly suspicious that Barcelona might not cough up the €20 million release clause for Garcia. Instead, they fear Barça might try to lowball them with a lesser offer.

Barcelona have set their sights on Garcia as they see him as the perfect fit for the team. It is believed that Xavi has given his seal of approval for the signing and while talks have begun, there has not been a formal offer yet.

Nevertheless, Barcelona are serious about their interest and have made it clear to Garcia’s agent and Girona that they are keen on bringing him to Catalonia.

Girona are worried

There is suspicion in Girona that Barcelona might not fork out the full €20 million as stipulated in his contract, at least that is what his current club and insiders suggest.

In Barcelona, whispers hint the sum might be lower and It is rumoured they are considering a lower offer.

Meanwhile, the president of Girona expressed months ago their desire to keep all their current players but conceded they might have to yield if the right offer comes along.

“In the end, there is only one clause that can make a player leave (the termination clause). With Aleix, no matter how much was said and things were said,” he said during the winter market.

Barcelona are particularly eyeing Garcia, provided only if president Joan Laporta and the board can pull some strings or generate additional income.

As of today, the midfielder continues to be a key player for Michel and Girona, having featured in all but one of the league games as a starter, only being substituted twice by the coach, which shows a lot about his quality.
