Ronald Koeman provided an update on defenders Gerard Pique and Ronald Araujo in his press conference prior to the Champions League clash between Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain. The Catalans will host PSG in the first leg of the heavyweight encounter on Tuesday.

Both sides are facing their fair share of injury concerns. PSG will be without their superstars Neymar and Angel Di Maria, while Barcelona are facing a crisis in defense. Ronald Araujo picked up an ankle sprain against Real Betis last week while Gerard Pique is making progress towards his recovery from the knee injury that he suffered in November.

Koeman gave updates on both their situations and analysed tomorrow’s clash in the presser.

On the matchup: “First of all, we are excited to play this game. We know it will be difficult because Paris has a strong team, it will be a fun match. I said after this draw that I trust my team, and I think that there is an improvement in our style of play. I think it’s a very equal game.”

On Gerard Pique: “Piqué is fine, he has been training with the group for 4 or 5 days. We have good feelings, but I still have a day to decide whether or not he will be on the list. It’s been a while since he was away, we’ll decide tomorrow morning.”

On Ronald Araujo: “Araujo hasn’t trained and doesn’t make it to tomorrow’s match. Any player on the list has options to play.”

On whether Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti are ready: “Any of our defenders are ready. It’s true they have some individual mistakes but that’s part of football. I have no doubt about the players. They will know how to defend against a team like Paris.”

On their preparedness: “I am not afraid of anything because I have absolute confidence in my team and at the same time I respect the opponent. We’ll try to control the game. Each team has pros and cons and we will try to focus on their weaknesses.”
