Barcelona’s pursuit of a new striker is yet to yield the desired results. Xavi Hernandez is keen on adding a No. 9 to his roster, and has Alvaro Morata of Juventus on his radars.

However, a move for the Atletico Madrid loanee has hit a snag as Juve are reluctant to let him leave without bringing in a replacement first. But, recent developments indicate that things could be set to change on that front.

According to reputed journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus are set to submit an official offer for the signing of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. With talks ongoing to bring the Serbian to the Allianz Stadium, the door would be open for Morata to leave.

And, Romano claims that the Spanish international still remains interested in making the switch to Camp Nou, providing Barça with an opportunity to swoop in for his signing before the transfer window slams shut in less than a week.

While the Catalan heavyweights have brought in attacking reinforcements in the form of Ferran Torres, another forward would go a long way in helping the team. Ousmane Dembele seems set for the exit doors while Ansu Fati has been sidelined with yet another injury.

Luuk de Jong has started the new year on a positive note and looks set to stay put at the club. However, behind him, there are not many natural options for the No. 9 role. Martin Braithwaite has hardly played this season, whereas Memphis Depay struggled when deployed through the middle.

Even though Morata has not exactly been pulling up trees with his performances for Juventus this term (eight goals in 29 games), his know-how and experience of playing for big teams would make him a handy option to call upon.

However, any move will now depend on whether Vlahovic decides to join the Bianconeri or move elsewhere.
