The future of Samuel Umtiti is far from settled this summer. There is no doubt the French defender has been deemed surplus to the requirements by Xavi and will be offloaded by Barcelona before the transfer market slams to a shut.

However, over the past few weeks, there has been a lack of progress in regards to his exit, with Umtiti and his compatriot Clement Lenglet still remaining at Camp Nou.

A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered an update on the future of Umtiti, suggesting the player is willing to leave Barcelona in the summer, knowing he is not included in Xavi’s plans for the new season.

The Frenchman, though, will not leave just for the sake of it. The player reportedly wants to join a club that can offer European football, preferably the UEFA Champions League.

It is a reason why the defender has rejected offers from mid-table clubs so far this summer. He is holding out for that offer from one big club, which can hand him the platform to revive his career, after a disappointing few years at Barça.

Barcelona expect Umtiti to leave one way or another. They are hopeful the former Lyon starlet will have to settle for a mid-table club eventually if he fails to attract any tier outfits.

But the Catalans are aware the process could take a long time and they have to remain patient. However, they do not rule out the possibility of terminating the contract of Umtiti, and goalkeeper Neto Murara, if they refuse to leave Camp Nou in the summer.

Their departures, after all, could go a long way in helping Barcelona move a step closer to the capture of summer target Jules Kounde.
