Gerard Romero: Bernardo Silva’s transfer would cost Barcelona €50-55 million

Gerard Romero is no short of transfer bombshells this transfer window. After successfully defending Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and then Jules Kounde’s claims against the English media, he has come forth with another important update today.

The reliable journalist claims that Barcelona have an agreement with Manchester City, which would see Berardo move to the La Liga giants for less than €80 million. The transfer, he boldly says, would cost no more than €60 million.

That seems to be an absurd amount for a player who is, inarguably, one of the best in his position. He was in the Premier League team of the season for the 2022/23 campaign, and for the first half of it, a contender for the Player of the Season trophy as well.

It was initially reported that Bernardo would only be signed if Frenkie de Jong leaves the club. The Dutchman has an €85 million price tag on his head, which Manchester United and Chelsea are willing to meet.

However, now it seems Barça are planning to sign Bernardo regardless of what happens to de Jong. Xavi is a huge admirer of the midfielder and wants Laporta to sign him as a top priority.

That said, Barça are facing a lot of trouble registering their five summer signings with La Liga, and signing Bernardo would only add to the trouble. He will, however, earn less than de Jong, and is more than excited for the move.

Romero also reports that the Portuguese has appointments to look for a new house in Barcelona next week.

If it, indeed does go through, Xavi will have the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Bernardo Silva, Gavi, Pedri, Franck Kessie, Miralem Pjanic, and Sergio Busquets at his disposal in midfield for next season.

While it is a long season, it will certainly be interesting to see how he manages his immense squad for next season.
