Gerard Pique trolls Real Madrid on Twitter: “I didn’t know gifts count as leagues”

Barcelona’s Gerard Pique is not one to shy away from witty exchanges on social media. The defender never seems to pass up any opportunity to take a sly dig at rivals Real Madrid. And Pique was once again back to his humorous antics as he responded in typical fashion to a joke aimed at him by Movistar’s program La Resistencia.

Pique, who turns 34 years old today, posted a simple “34” on Twitter, to mark his birthday. It was also a reference to a program presented by David Broncano, with whom Geri shares a very good relationship. Coincidentally, Real Madrid’s La Liga title victory last season was also their 34th time winning the coveted prize. Sensing their opportunity, La Resistancia replied to Pique’s original tweet with a simple picture of Real Madrid lifting the league trophy last season.

Gerard Pique wasn’t having any of it however. He was quick to respond in his trademark humorous fashion as he retorted: “I didn’t know that gifts count as leagues.”, subtly devaluing Real Madrid’s achievements. As has been the case many times before, the response was very well received by all the Barcelona fans on social media.

This isn’t the first time Pique has trolled Los Blancos however. And it isn’t the first time he has exchanged humorous messages with La Resistencia either. Back in 2019, when the Barcelona defender appeared on the program ‘El Hormiguero’ dressed in white, the Madrid based program were quick to draw comparisons with Luis Figo. Pique swiftly responded asking: “And the pig?” referring to the infamous incident when the Portuguese tried to take a corner at the Camp Nou.

Gerard Pique is currently recovering from a serious knee injury he suffered back in November. He has been out of action for quite a while, but Barcelona fans will be hoping he returns quickly. His no-nonsense attitude serves them well on the pitch and evidently on social media too.
