Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez will not be present on the touchlines for their next La Liga game against Valencia as he will serve a one-match suspension for accumulation of cards. Midfield prodigy Gavi, too, will be out of the contest due to the same reason.

The 43-year-old tactician came into tonight’s game versus UD Almeria with already four bookings against his name, along with several key players from his roster.

And early in the second period, the Barça manager was shown a yellow card by the referee for protesting a decision.

It now means that the Catalans will have to step onto the field next week against Valencia without their manager present in the dugout.

Meanwhile, Gavi, who missed the UEFA Europa League second leg against Manchester United earlier this week due to suspension, also received his fifth yellow card of the La Liga season against Almeria.

It means that the 18-year-old will also be unavailable when the Catalans face Valencia in a week’s time.

Raphinha, too, received a booking between the moments when Xavi and Gavi were shown their cards. According to data on Transfermarkt, the Brazilian had four yellow cards coming into the game and thus would be suspended for the Valencia encounter.

However, data on La Liga’s official website says he had three yellows prior to tonight’s game. In that case, it would mean he has four bookings and will not be suspended.

Barcelona have officially confirmed that it is indeed his fourth yellow, meaning he should be available against Valencia.

As for the game itself, Barcelona have looked dull and lacked intensity and cutting edge against Almeria, who took the lead in the first period through El Bilal Toure.
