Former Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has affirmed that he would like to return to Camp Nou next season but added that nothing is really confirmed as of today.

Aubameyang, 33, is a likeable figure not only in the city of Barcelona but also in the dressing room. And now that the team is looking for a low-cost signing to reinforce the attack, Aubameyang’s name seems to be topping the list across media sources.

For the moment, although Barcelona are considering his return, they will only make a move if he is available on a free transfer. That, however, seems unlikely mostly because Chelsea paid nearly €12 million for his acquisition last year and he still has one more year left on his current deal.

For what it is worth, Aubameyang’s Chelsea tenure hasn’t panned out as he would have hoped. Despite playing 21 games across all competitions this season, the veteran forward has scored a mere three goals and has a solitary assist. This means the 33-year-old is averaging a goal in every seventh game he plays.

These figures hardly represent the legacy of Aubameyang, to say the least. In any way, Barcelona are studying his option for the next season and the player is quite aware of the fact.

Yesterday, a video of a follower emerged on the web where the fan asked the Gabonese about his future. At first, the 33-year-old avoided the question but as soon as the fan said he would love to see him at Barcelona, the striker responded,

“And I would like to return to Barça too, but we’ll see what happens,” Aubameyang was quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Aubameyang, who enjoyed a fruitful tenure at Barcelona, is quite aware of the team’s financial situation. In fact, he also knows that in order to end up at Camp Nou, he must acquire the letter of freedom from Chelsea. So for now, everything hinges on what the London club decides.
