It wasn’t that long ago that Douglas Santos used to ply his trade for Barcelona. The former Sao Paulo starlet had joined the club in 2014, on a €4 million deal.
The right-back was on the club’s books for five years, although much of it was spent away on loan, before he eventually left permanently in 2019.
Douglas was a distant memory for Barça fans as he could only muster eight competitive appearances during his time at Camp Nou. Ever since leaving Barça, Douglas has endured a rapid fall from grace and is currently without a club.
In a shocking revelation, however, it appears Douglas’ career has reached a new low, with the footballer currently under investigation for illegal use of firearms, reports Globo Esporte.
Santos fired into the air with a .308 caliber firearm. The incident took place in the Federal District, in a public parking area located in section 4 of Setor de Clubes Esportivo Sul (SCES). As per the report, Douglas had acted freely and consciously, out of his will.
The incident happened on April 21, 2023. But it has been disclosed by the Civil Police of the Federal District only on Tuesday.
The enquiry process has now been sent to the Justice of the Federal District, which will evaluate the case. The Public Defender of the Federal District reported that the former Barcelona player went through a custody hearing on April 23, 2023, and was allowed to go free. The complaint is still pending at the 5th Criminal Court of Brasilia, though.
The motive behind Douglas’ act remains unknown, but it has been reported that the Brazilian and his wife took part in a speedboat ride on April 21. Ten more people were present and consumed alcohol. They even had a disagreement, which might have led to the incident.
Douglas has admitted to shooting in the air, but he refused to tell where he had hidden the gun. The investigation is still underway and the consequences could be brutal for the former Barcelona star.
