Robert Lewandowski has been a hot topic in Spanish football this week, following Madrid Central Court’s shock decision to provide temporary relief on his suspension, shortly before the game against Espanyol.

The Pole had picked up a three-game suspension during Barça’s game against Osasuna. He had picked up two yellow cards in that game, which led to a one-game suspension, but the striker had then allegedly gestured at the referee, prompting the authorities to stamp a two-match ban.

But shortly before the Catalan derby, Lewandowski was cleared to feature in the game due to the temporary relief provided by the Central Court, much to the annoyance of Espanyol, who have since lodged an official complaint, challenging the outcome of the match.

Now as Barcelona brace themselves for the weekend encounter against Atletico Madrid, there are uncertainty on whether or not Lewandowski will be able to feature in this contest.

Speaking ahead of the game against Real Oviedo in the Copa Del Rey, Atleti boss Diego Simeone was questioned about Lewandowski. But the Argentine tactician offered no opinion on the subject.

“Oviedo”, Simeone bluntly said (h/t Mundo Deportivo) when asked about Lewandowski. It appears the Atletico Madrid manager is only occupied with the midweek game in the Copa Del Rey and has no time to think about the Barcelona clash.

Atletico Madrid face Barça on Sunday in La Liga, which could prove to be a crucial encounter for both teams. There are reports that suggest Lewandowski could be available for the clash if the Madrid Central Court fails to put out a resolution on the matter within the week.

With Friday being a holiday, many expect the court to come out with a verdict only at the start of next week. Hence, it will not come as a surprise to see the Pole remain in contention to feature against Atleti this weekend.
