According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano in his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, Barcelona consider the contract renewal of Ousmane Dembele as a key issue in the coming months. The Italian journalist broke the news after confirming that Eric Garcia will join Barcelona as a free agent in the summer.

The Frenchman finally seems to be leaving his injury-ridden past at Barcelona behind him. He was once again one of the heroes in the Catalans’ fantastic comeback win against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semi-final. His wonderful curling strike was his second in as many games against the Andalusians, vital in both league and cup victories.

Dembele has been wonderful this season for Barcelona, scoring eight goals across all competitions, with some of them being absolutely crucial. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022. The winger has been growing in confidence on the pitch, as well as gaining discipline off it.

Joan Laporta also believes that the 23-year-old is a superbly talented player and should be one of the key pieces of the Barcelona squad for years to come. He has struggled with a whole host of injuries since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund back in 2017, which have halted his progress so far.

Once the new president is elected after the elections coming up in just three days’ time, Dembele’s new contract will be under works. If the Frenchman continues on his upward trajectory, Barcelona must certainly keep hold of him. He is only just beginning to repay the club’s faith in him and there is a lot more he has in store.
