According to a breaking report from the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie’s move to Al Ahli is completed.

The Ivory Coast international will undergo his medicals for the Saudi Arabia-based side on Monday in Paris.

There are now no longer any doubts about his next destination.

A necessary reinforcement at the time

The midfielder joined Barcelona just over a year ago hoping to become a mainstay at the club of his dreams.

He arrived on a free transfer and was considered one of Serie A’s best midfield players at the time.

However, his time in Catalonia did not go as expected. Kessie succumbed to the heavy competition under Xavi Hernandez and could not establish himself ahead of the likes of Gavi and Pedri.

Ilkay Gundogan’s arrival came as the final nail in the coffin for the former Milan star.

Kessie hoped to turn his situation around in the preseason tour to the USA, but it could not be reversed.

Much needed sale for Barcelona

Barcelona have been eyeing a big-name departure for a long time now, and Kessie’s departure marks the first such successful operation.

Joan Laporta and Co. are set to receive €15 million from the player’s transfer to Al-Ahli and he will sign a three-year contract with the Saudi-based club.

The injection of funds into the Azulgranas’ coffers will help them progress with the signing of a new right-back in the coming days.

Moreover, their dream of roping in Bernardo Silva partially depends on Kessie’s departure too.

A tough choice for Kessie

The 26-year-old has had no shortage of suitors on the transfer market this summer.

However, it was initially reported that he prioritised staying in Europe and operating at the highest level.

Juventus and two Premier League clubs soon appeared on the scene as prime candidates to sign Kessie.

The Old Lady, in particular, emerged as the frontrunner for Massimiliano Allegri and saw the player to be fundamental to his plans.

In the end, the Barcelona star opted to move to Saudi Arabia and is set to ply his trade in the emerging league.
