David Alaba talks Barcelona and Madrid rumours: “My agents are in contact with the clubs”

David Alaba has now officially confirmed he’ll be parting ways with Bayern Munich at the end of the season. The versatile defender-cum-midfielder’s contract is set to expire this summer and soon, we’ll be seeing him don colours of a different team.

However, while he does know he won’t spend more time over in Bavaria, the 28-year-old admitted he doesn’t know his next destination just yet. Of course, as soon as the announcement of his departure was made, the media sprung into action, asking him various questions about his future.

And it does seem like Spain is a clear option for Alaba and the player himself admitted his agents are in contact with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

When speaking on that very same topic, he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo: “It is no secret that my agents are in contact with the clubs. There are a lot of rumours, but I prefer to focus on Bayern. I am in contact with my representatives, the rest will be seen”

Of course, Alaba won’t reveal his future destination, even if he does know it by now, but Barcelona and Real Madrid specifically have been mentioned multiple times now.

Still, it does seem like Alaba’s agent is waiting for the elections in Catalonia to be over before making the final decision. Money could also be an issue when it comes to Barcelona and even if the player wanted to join, it still remains to be seen whether the Azulgranas could actually afford him.

Either way, the battle for his signature could be fierce as getting such a huge star on a free is a deal worth chasing.
