Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s spell at FC Barcelona did not long. Yet, the Gabonese international always symbolised and played for the badge with his all.

His love for the club has never been in question. He arrived when the Blaugranas were at an all-time low, pioneered a special second half of the 2021-22 season and helped Xavi’s side get back onto their feet. Later, when asked to depart, he left like a true professional.

After Barcelona beat Real Madrid in Sunday’s El Clasico, the Chelsea striker was seen in the Catalan dressing room celebrating with his former teammates. According to reports from Deportes Cuatro, this has not gone down well in London.

Graham Potter’s side do not like Aubameyang’s behaviour and are reportedly considering terminating his contract with immediate effect. In such a situation, Barcelona could look to bring him back on a free transfer in June.

The Azulgranas have the centre-forward position well covered with Robert Lewandowski. However, it has become clear during the ongoing season that the Pole have no direct backup with Ansu Fati covering in his absence.

Moreover, Lewy’s form has not been at the mark since the return to club football in December. Needless to say, Xavi could use the services of another forward and Auba could be that player.

The path at Chelsea has not been smooth for the 33-year-old since his move on deadline day last summer. He began the season well, but his importance fell exponentially soon.

Aubameyang has only made 12 Premier League appearances for the men in blue this season with four starts under his belt. In that duration, he has scored just one goal with 0.2 key passes per game.

Barcelona’s pursuit of the striker will boil down to the club’s situation with the wage roster. However, given the Gabonese international’s desire to return, he could well take a massive pay cut.
