With FC Barcelona on the prowl for a new defensive midfielder heading into the summer, Bayern Munich ace Joshua Kimmich has been identified as one of the priority targets, along with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

The 29-year-old Kimmich is entering the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich in the summer and an exit has been talked about, especially due to the uncertain managerial situation at the Bavarian club.

Kimmich enticed by Barcelona

Now, SPORT reports that Kimmich is yet to make a decision on his future, but the option of playing for Barcelona is enticing him.

Kimmich would arrive at Barça as a star and play in the position he likes best, centre midfield, instead of the right-back position he currently occupies at Bayern.

From a sporting point of view, being under the orders of Xavi appeals to the midfielder and La Liga has always attracted his attention.

The best proof of this is that he has been learning Spanish for years in case one day he has the chance to play in La Liga.

Bayern pressuring to renew

The problem for Kimmich and Barcelona is that Bayern Munich are unwilling to play ball and wish to renew his contract beyond 2025.

The Bavarians have not even put a price on the player. Although he has only one year left on his contract, Bayern are reluctant to sell the 29-year-old, one of the pillars of their project.

The Bavarians’ intention is to renew Kimmich’s contract. The Bavarian leaders are already pressuring the player to get his approval.

However, the 29-year-old will take things easy. He intends to wait for Barcelona in case they finally have the financial viability to afford his signing.

The player’s predisposition counts for a lot and he is in favour of turning his career around to try the Spanish adventure.

The other side of the coin comes with the financial instability of Barça due to their salary barriers. So, only time will tell how things progress as Kimmich is prepared to wait for the Catalans.
